Truffle bars is one of a polyphyletic bunch of fungi that contain various psychedelic compounds, including psilocybin, psilocin, and biocytin. Standard, colloquial terms for psilocybin mushrooms include psychedelic mushrooms, magic mushrooms, shrooms, and mush.
A typical psychedelic dose of psilocybin, found in “magic mushrooms” and “truffles bar,” for someone of moderate body weight is about 3.5 grams when the mushroom or truffle is dry; a microdose is about 1/10 of a hallucinogenic dose.
So, my first experience with this tuffle bars was life-changing in the most conscious and transcendent way. Unfortunately, my high school thrill-seeking friends and I knew nothing about dosing psychedelics and gobbled up magic mushrooms as we lived at an all-you-can-eat salad bar.
What exactly is a truffle bar? It’s what you call a chocolate bar with a filling not closely comparable to any candy bar currently in existence. It’s not a nougat or a mousse or a caramel or a cream. It’s vaguely similar to the peanut butter texture inside a Reese’s cup come to think of it–fluffy and a bit cakey at first but melts in your mouth as you eat it. It’s rich but also light. Chocolatey inside and out. Scrumptious and very sweet-tooth-satisfying and even better with a salt sprinkle on top.
Truffles can be time-consuming to make, but these bite-sized truffle bars are easy to make and a great alternative. Perfect for entertaining or a special occasion.
INGREDIENTS OF TRUFFLE BARS
- 1 cup (250 mL) pistachios or pecans finely chopped
- 3/4 cup (180 mL) 35 % whipping cream
- 8 Squares (8 oz/250 g) bittersweet chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate chopped
- 6 Squares (6 oz/180 g) white chocolate chopped
- 1 tbsp (15 mL) butter
If chocolates do not melt completely when cream is added, place each bowl over a pan of hot, not boiling, water and stir until melted.
